Or: Bug vs Windshield.
Kobe has all of 7 points and the Lakers are up 20 midway through the third quarter. Lamar Odom started off red hot, making something like his first 6 shots (he's got 17 with 9 board thrown in for good measure). Gasol has 10 points and 8 boards and the legendary Derek Fisher has 11.
Meanwhile, the "Big Three" has a total of 27 points.
I'm sick of Boston sports. Truly. Patriots, Red Sox, now the Celtics? Boston College wasn't bad this year either. Sick of it.
But that's just me, I guess.
Edit 1: With 2:58 left, the Celtics have gone on an 11-2 runs to cut it to 11. I blame myself. Doc Rivers probably went to the back, logged on to the Thigh (that's what he does, you know...he certainly doesn't coach), and reported to his players that I wanted Boston (the city, mind you, not just the team) to lose. And now they're mocking me.
LA suddenly becomes incapable of taking care of the ball, having the ball stolen a few times and a block leading to another fast break. Asses, the lot of 'em.
Edit 2: Now with 1:34 in the third, LA plays no defense and Gasol misses a dunk. Then a quick three by Eddie House and it's a 6 point game. My bug vs windshield comment is starting to look more and more asshole-ish. 17-3 run for Boston.
Edit 3: 21-3 run to end the third quarter, capped with PJ Brown taking a pass on the base line and dunking it. I better get a ring for my contribution to the cause. Kobe has 7 points, 7 assists, and 4 boards...and is likely to flip out at his team at any moment. You don't want to accept his invite up to his hotel room tonight unless you like it rough.
Edit 4: Powe with a mid range jumper to tie the game. Boston has come back from a 24 point deficit on the strength of this 23-3 run. Kobe with a layup gives LA the lead again. 9 points for the MVP. He has 4 more FGs tonight than I do.
75-75 on a Pierce jumper. 8:47 to go.
Edit 5: Kobe with a jam to put the lakers up 81-77 with 5:47 left. Kobe's up to 13 points now. Pierce is holding his foot. Odds are that he'll have his team carry him off before returning in one of those old school Wrestlemania moving mini-rings with a those Bret Hart glasses on. Watch out for the sharpshooter, Lamar Odom. You've been warned.
Edit 6: Celtics take their first lead of the game with an Eddie House jumper. 84-83 with 3:48 remaining in the game. They can mail my ring to "Fly c/o Sharapova's Thigh"
As an aside, does anyone actually text in their choice for player of the game? Anyone? You have to really, really love a player to feel the need to send those texts in. I think we should get a movement together to get Luke Walton the Game 4 MVP.
Edit 7: 88-83 Boston with 2:10 remaining. Kobe's going to murder someone tonight. My money is on Sasha Vujacic. With a name like that, he probably has it coming.
Boston is on another run, this time 8-0.
And I chuckle every time I hear the movie trailer/commercial guy go "Hancock". You know why. Yea, you know.
Edit 8: 92-89 Boston with 1 minute left. Sasha Vujacic (he who is so dead and doesn't even know it yet) left Posey open for a three. Derek Fisher responded with a two. Bryant fouls Pierce and sends him back to the line. (Last trip, Pierce made 1 of 2).
As a disclaimer, we at the Thigh do not wish any harm to Sasha Vujacic. What Kobe wishes on him is outside of our control.
Edit 9: Boston is up 96-91 with 15 seconds left. The bug vs windshield comment may have been premature.
I just ordered my Vujacic jersey after Ray Allen drove right by him for an uncontested lay-up (someone else screwed up the help, but whatever). It's going to be a collectible after Kobe gets done with him tonight. The MVP has 10 points in the 4th quarter.
Edit 10: Looks like Boston has this one. Vujacic misses a long two, Kobe an off balance three, House shooting free throws with 3 seconds left.
Garnett finishes with 18 points and 10 board. Pierce with 18 points. Allen had 17 points and 9 boards.
For the losers, Odom had 19 points, 13 of which I think came in the first quarter. He also had 10 boards. Kobe Bean Bryant had 17 points and 10 assists. The soon-to-cease-to-be Sasha Vujacic had 3 points and 3 rebounds.
Boston up 3-1 in the series.
