Greg Daniels has revealed the concept behind Amy Poehler's The Office spinoff.Link(Digital Spy)
Speaking at the Paley Centre for Media in Beverly Hills, Daniels, who remade Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's BBC comedy for NBC, explained how the show evolved from a direct spinoff into a "companion piece" for the Steve Carell sitcom.
"I refer to it as a companion piece in that it's more similar in tone than anything," he said. "There aren't any characters that have left that world and come over to this world. It's not the same state and it's not the same subject matter but currently it is a mockumentary and I think that that form is great for comedy. It feels to me like there's room for ten mockumentaries on TV."
Producers initially planned to have characters from The Office cross over into the Poehler-led comedy.
The show is expected to debut on NBC next February.

There's been talk of this "The Office" spin-off show on NBC for awhile. Looks like no characters from "The Office" will leave the show to do the spin-off which I'm thrilled to hear.
