Albert Saputra, a golfer representing Riau province in a competition held at Gading Serpong Golf Course in Serpong, Tangerang, was injured by a stray bullet on Sunday.
The 17-year-old Pekanbaru high school student was taking part in the Medco Cup Junior Golf Competition when he was shot in the hip. He was immediately taken to the Global Medika Hospital in Tangerang.
Albert's father, Yusak Saputra, said his third son was waiting for his turn to hit the ball at hole 9 when he felt a sudden, sharp pain.
"First, I thought a stray ball had hit him. But I saw a hole in his clothing where blood was seeping from," he said at the hospital Monday.
Yusak came closer to examine his son and, upon finding the bullet wound on his hip, took him straight to the hospital.
He said an examination and X-rays at the hospital showed a bullet lodged in Albert's hip.
It was reported that at the same time when the stray bullet hit Albert, a number of soldiers were engaged in a shooting exercise at a nearby area belonging to the Strategic Army Command (Kostrad) in Pondok Jagung, Serpong.
