Maria Sharapova will not get the chance to repeat at the Australian Open.

The woman we worship, Maria Sharapova, is still not 100% back from her shoulder injury and will not be able to participate in the Australian Open:

Defending champion Maria Sharapova has been forced to withdraw from the Australian Open due to her slower-than-expected recovery following a shoulder injury.

Sharapova advised tournament officials earlier today that she would not be able to defend her crown at Melbourne Park beginning Jan. 19.

We're sad to hear this. Hopefully Maria gets well soon and can get back on the court. The Thigh Goddess beat Ana Ivanovic to win the 2008 Australian Open, and I told you about that on the first day of this blog's existence actually.
