Maria Sharapova will still be absent from the tennis court for at least a few more weeks. The Thigh Goddess is recovering from shoulder surgery that prevented her from the opportunity to defend her 2008 Australian Open title, and now will keep her out for at least a couple more tournaments. Maria will miss the Paris Open, followed by the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships:
"I confirm she will not be there(Paris Open), she will not be taking part in the Dubai tournament the following week," a tournament spokeswoman said.
The next major is the French Open, which doesn't begin until May 25th. All indications are that she will be ready for that, but it's hard to imagine she'll be very effective until she gets some tournaments under her belt(where I know many of you would love to be) before that.
Furthermore, Maria's world ranking has dropped to 17th. She was #1 in the world around this time last year, and 17th is the lowest ranking she's had in nearly five years. Her thigh is still ranked #1 though.
