Curb is the best television show out there in my opinion. Seinfeld will always be #1 for me, because without it, Curb wouldn't exist of course. However, I have to say that nothing makes me laugh more than an episode of Curb. As for fantasy football, it's one of my favorite hobbies and I'm more addicted to it than Lindsay Lohan is blow.
So you can only imagine how excited I was to find out that FX has a television series coming out which mixes the two elements together:
FX is joining "The League," ordering a semi-scripted comedy pilot from "Curb Your Enthusiasm" executive producer/director Jeff Schaffer.
The project, which Schaffer co-created with his wife, Jackie Marcus Schaffer, centers on a fantasy football league and tackles issues of marriage, friendship, parenting and love in suburbia.
In the words of lead character Pete (Mark Duplass): "God bless fantasy football. There are many things a man can do with his time; this is better than those things."
In the "Curb" mold, "League" features improvisational elements.Link(Yahoo/Reuters)
Jeff Schaffer is directing it. He's brilliant, also working as an executive producer on Seinfeld, and co-writing the comedy Bruno which is currently in theaters and getting solid reviews.
Those that have seen shows on FX such as It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia and Nip/Tuck know that the channel pushes the limits of cable television. It's basically HBO, minus a few certain vulgar words and nudity(but they're close there as well). So Schaffer and company won't be too limited in what they can do with this series.
I wouldn't just be surprised if the show didn't stick around for a bit, but if it's not one of the most hilarious shows on television. I'm pretty sure I'm going to love it at least.
