The NFL has lost another one of their elite players Sunday. Just like the Broncos' Darrent Williams and the Redskins' Sean Taylor, former Titans' and Ravens' quarterback, Steve McNair was shot and killed at a young age. Unfortunately, his resume of work may be overlooked by the sad details surrounding this event.
As a woman, I can't help but feel for his wife, Mechelle of 12 years and their four kids. For someone who is considered a role model for children and adults, the news of his double life has deeply saddened me and many of his fans. Not to mention, most likely leaving his wife dumbfounded and feeling like a fool. Not only does she have to deal with the death of her husband, but she now has to live with the fact that he was having an affair with a 20-year-old woman for who knows how long.
This story has had as much entertainment reporting as ESPN, because of the photos published on entertainment website, TMZ.com of McNair and Sahel Kazemi on a vacation. As of right now, no one knows the exact details of why he died, but I can't help but wonder if maybe he realized what he was doing was wrong and Kazemi was afraid that her new comfortable lifestyle was about to end.
Police reported that the gun was bought by his girlfriend just days before the shooting. Besides the publicized vacations, McNair also bought her a Cadillac Escalade. Maybe she was afraid that the relationship was beginning to fizzle out and acted irrationally out of fear.
I hope that once the dust settles, McNair will be remembered for all the good he did on and off the field. For now, I see a man who couldn't resist an urge and fell by the wayside. He got caught up in a tangled web of lies and deceit which ultimately ended his life.
How will you remember Steve McNair?
