Jamie Moyer Makes His 600th Start In America's Pastime On This 4th Of July | Sharapova's Thigh

Jamie Moyer will be making his 600th career start today and you had no idea.

Justin and I were just talking about Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer, because that's what cool guys in their mid-20s do on Friday nights. This of course led to us dorks looking up his statistics on Baseball-Reference. While perusing, something caught my eye: Jamie Moyer is making his 600th career start today.

Isn't that sort of a big deal? I haven't heard a single thing about it. I searched for it on Google News and found absolutely nothing.

600 games started in the majors, think about that. Only two other active pitchers have done that: Tom Glavine(682) and Randy Johnson(602).

All-time, only 20 other pitchers have done that: Greg Maddux(740, 4th All-time) and Roger Clemens(707, 7th All-time) the only others from this era. Putting steroids and whatnot aside, that's four of the greatest pitchers of all-time in Glavine, Johnson, Maddux, and Clemens.

Moyer, 46, has had a great career, putting together a 252-191 record and a 4.23 ERA over 23 seasons. However, he's unlikely to make the Hall of Fame, or get other very notable achievements like the other pitchers I mentioned, such as winning 300 games. It doesn't mean the dude doesn't deserve some serious props though, and I think we don't talk about what he's done enough. He hardly ever even hits over 80 mph or so on the radar gun anymore. He's a magician and it's a joy to watch him to pitch.

So when you're having an awesome time on this 4th of July with your family and friends, consider drinking one or six for Jamie Moyer for this incredible feat in America's pastime.
