I care a lot more about this Lamar Odom situation than a probably should. Where he signs will single-handedly determine whether I am pissed about this NBA offseason or whether I go into next year with a glimmer of hope.
Lets not mince words here: Lamar Odom is the reason the Lakers beat the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals in June. Odom was a beast, a matchup nightmare, a rebounding machine and a clutch shooter.
Kobe was Kobe. Sure, Trevor Ariza made some stellar defensive plays in the waning moments of several games. And yeah, Pau took off the massive vagina he'd been wearing around for the first two series of the playoffs. Odom was the X-factor though.
If Odom returns to the land of Jack Nicholson, MannyWood and the philandering mayor the Lakers are going to be great. Possibly All Time Great. At least on paper.
If Odom walks, the Lakers would have basically traded Odom and Ariza for Ron Artest. I like that move if I'm a fan of any team other than Lakers.
The knock on Odom has always been his motor. His skill set is about as unique as you'll find in the league. He's a 6'10" point guard who takes great rebounding angles.
