I'm a HUGE Saved by the Bell fan, as I'm pretty sure every Thigh writer is or was at some point. Basically the entire generation of people in their mid 20s-mid 30s is. I still watch episodes whenever I can in the morning on TBS, and even had a bunch of the DVDs until they were stolen/borrowed and never returned in college.
So two days ago was a special day for me and many others(even though you, just like me, had no idea at the time), as Saved by the Bell made its debut 20 years ago(August 20, 1989) to the day on NBC. So happy 20th to Saved by the Bell!
To be clear, the very original show was Good Morning, Miss Bliss, and that particular show began in 1988. That was a show featuring Zack Morris(Mark Paul Gosselaar), Samuel "Screech" Powers(Dustin Diamond), Lisa Turtle(Lark Voorhies), Mr. Belding(Dennis Haskins), and others in middle school.
Then came along Saved by the Bell on August 20th, 1989, where those four just decided to travel along together to Los Angeles to go to high school! What, that sort of stuff doesn't happen?
We were then introduced to Kelly Kapowski(Tiffani-Amber Thiessen), Jessie Spano(Elizabeth Berkley), A.C. Slater(Mario Lopez), etc.
And of course after the high school years of Saved by the Bell, we got Saved by the Bell: The College Years, which didn't include Lisa and Jessie and had a few other new characters, such as former NFL player Bob Golic as their hall R.A. Again, not so realistic, but still damn cool.
Lastly, we saw (spoiler alert!) Zack and Kelly get married in a movie that appeared on NBC, Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas. Saved by the Bell: The New Class was also around for awhile featuring Screech, Mr. Belding, and a bunch of new kids, but the show was pure ass.
Anyway, we obviously have to show some great clips, highlight videos, etc. of the show...
Jessie popping caffeine pills... "I'm So Excited!"
Mr. Belding and his catch phrase, "Hey, hey, hey, what is going on here?"
Zack, Slater, and Screech do "Barbara Ann". They don't literally do her, but they lip sync the song
Zack and Slater fight... sort of a remix version of it from somebody
This is awesome... "Lost Heroes: Saved by the Bell's Rod Belding"
A fan video of highlights from the show to Zack Attack's "Friends Forever:
Another fan video... to the graduation song, "Farewell Bayside"
And this is awesome... "Zack Morris" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon recently
I can't post this... but here's the "There's no hope with dope" video. That damn Johnny Dakota.
Also, check out the "Thigh of the Week" we did for Kelly Kapowski, a post about A.C. Slater and wearing shirts, and a hilarious post from our friend Chris Illuminati a few days ago about Screech's tell-all book.
