Or at least, I think it's history. If nothing else, it's very weird.
Pena came into today hitting .225. As best as I can tell, that makes him last in hitting amongst qualifying batters in the AL. He's also leading the AL in homers.
So I was sitting and wondering...has this ever happened before? Has anyone ever lead their league in bombs while having the lowest average? A cursory look doesn't reveal another.
I'll be rooting for a bunch of 1 for 5 nights for Pena, the one of course being a homer. And I'll also be rooting against the Gerald Lairds of the world, who would attempt to take this date with history away from us with their special brand of 'hitting'.
