Antarctic Nail ale, a 5.2% ABV beer that is brewed with Antarctic ice/water, just sold for $800, making it the most expensive beer in the world. If I'm going to spend $800 on beer, it better keep me hammered for a few weeks, but that's just my drunk self. 5.2% ABV is going to take quite a few beers to make that happen.
Anyway, the beer is from Australia's Nail Brewing Company. Just a single bottle of this limited edition(30 bottles were made available) beer was sold, and the money goes to Sea Sheperd to help with their anti-whaling campaign. So, at least it's for a good cause.
Nail Brewing's John Stallwood had this to say about the cause, and took also shot at Brewdog:
“It is great to sell the most expensive bottle of beer in the world but it is all about a good cause. It is also good that a beer about saving the whales is now most expensive beer in the world rather than high alcohol beer sold in animal carcasses. I think future beers that sell for over $800 won’t just be unique but will also be for good causes.
And here's more on the beer, from the website:
Nail Ale is a award winning Australian Pale Ale which has been brewed with Antarctic water creating an Antarctic Pale Ale. The Antarctic water could possibly be the purest, oldest water ever brewed to make a beer. The previous most expensive beer, BrewDog's "End of History", was pretty much the exact opposite of the Nail Ale, in that it was 55% ABV(that'll do the job... and then some), and came in dead animal carcasses. No, seriously.
