November 2012 | Sharapova's Thigh

Because that's probably not going to work...

Anyway, I suppose it's still a nice tribute to Texas A&M's Heisman-contending freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel:

Apologies for no week 12 roundup as I was dealing with computer issues last week. But, I'm at least able to bring you the week 13 roundup as many of you are about to start the fantasy football playoffs.

If you have/come across any useful fantasy football-related links that I should add to this post, never hesitate to e-mail me (sharapovasthigh@gmail.com) or tweet me @SharapovasThigh the links.

Good luck in week 13...

Rolando McClain was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders. You may remember him from his college days, where he was an All-American and a member of the 2010 national championship-winning Alabama Crimson Tide. Or you may remember the linebacker from the above photo, in which he's smiling while being arrested on gun charges on December 1, 2011, in Decatur, Alabama.

On the field, McClain has been a disappointment this season for the highly disappointing 3-8 Raiders. On Wednesday, the linebacker didn't practice for the Raiders due to "team-related issues" according to Oakland head coach Dennis Allen. And later in the day, McClain wrote on his Facebook wall that he's "officially no longer an Oakland Raider", that he'd like to be "anywhere besides here (Oakland)", and that he's "looking forward to playing for an actual 'team'":

As you can see in the tweets from NFL.Com/NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, McClain is apparently still on the Raiders' roster, but McClain doesn't see that being the case for long. And he clearly doesn't want that to be the case, anyway.

Just what the Raiders need right now, right? Yikes. As they say in Seinfeld, "That's not gonna be good for business." "That's not gonna be good for anybody."

This looks very bad for the Raiders with one of their players basically saying that the Raiders are not a 'team'. That could be in reference to a number of things with the players, coaching staff, and front office, but whatever the case, it doesn't look good for a struggling 3-8 team.

And it doesn't look good at all for McClain either. That's not how you go about your business in the NFL. Add on his trouble with the law and lackluster performance on the field, and I doubt too many teams are lining up right now for his services, which is pretty incredible given the fact he was the No. 8 overall pick just two years ago.

So, it'll be interesting to see if McClain is officially released in the next couple of days, and if so, where he ends up next. I don't see how the Raiders can keep him around after his comments. If they do, he's going to have one hell of a (forced) apology on the way.

It's a jaw-dropping, spectacular sight for this young man:

Chalk that up as one of my favorite videos of 2012.

Also, how awesome is courtside seating? Right there on the floor watching NBA basketball with large-breasted babes bringing you candy. I suppose that's why the seats are like $500, though.

In the first half of Friday's LSU-Arkansas game, LSU wide receiver Jarvis Landry made what is in my opinion, the best catch of the 2012 college football season.

Watch Landry make an absolutely insane one-handed 22-yard touchdown catch in the back of the end zone:

Unbelievable play. Ohio State's Devin Smith also made a ridiculous one-handed touchdown grab like that this season, but I'm giving Landry the "Catch of the Year" (so far) crown. Everything about that play was remarkable.

Make sure to see multiple angles of Landry's catch in GIF form at The Big Lead.

Division III school Grinnell College is known for their rapid-paced offense and high scoring totals in basketball. And on Tuesday night, they took that to an insane level. Well, specifically, their 5'10" sophomore guard Jack Taylor took it to an insane level:
138 points. 72 three-point tries. Are you kidding me?

The previous NCAA-record for points scored in a game was 113 points in 1954.

Oh, and as I'm sure you would assume, Grinnell won the game- Final score of 179-104 over Faith Baptist Bible. So Taylor outscored Faith Baptist Bible by 34 points. Not bad.

Derrick Henry of Yulee High School in Florida broke the national career-rushing record in Yulee's 41-26 playoff victory over Perry Taylor County High School on Friday night.

Henry rushed for 482 yards in the game, giving him 11,612 rushing yards in his career, to break the previous record of 11,232 yards held by Ken Hall. Hall set the record in 1950-1953 while playing at Texas' Sugar Land High School.

Here's more on Henry's record, via ESPN.Com:

Entering the night, Henry needed 102 rushing yards to pass Hall. In 11 games this year, Henry has not been held below 200 yards rushing. He has run for 3,752 yards and 50 touchdowns.

Henry, No. 26 in the ESPN 150 and the No. 3 athlete in the country, has rushed for more than 100 yards in all 45 high school games in which he has played. He set Florida's single-game rushing record earlier this season with a 510-yard performance against Jacksonville Jackson.

As Al Bruce of Black Sports Online points out, "Since Henry is 6’3” and 240lbs, you can expect plenty of comparisons to ex-Tennessee Titan and Ohio State great Eddie George."

Oh, and guess what? Henry's going to play college football at Alabama. It's about time 'Bama got a talented running back, right? Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, Eddie Lacy, T.J. Yeldon... bums.

Anyway, here's a video featuring an ESPN interview with Henry, and some highlights of his runs :

Editor's Note: Internet finally back after I had to move. Plenty of content going to be posted now.

Last November, we showed you the first trailer for Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto V. And now, they've released the second trailer for the highly anticipated video game.

If you're thinking, "Good lord, would they release this damn game already?", well, as you'll see by this second trailer, the game is loaded with incredible detail. It should be well worth the wait, just as Grand Theft Auto IV (maybe the best game I've ever played, and the reviews would back that up) was.

Here's the trailer:

The last dunk we showed you on here was a posterizing slam from the Hawks' Jeff Teague over Thunder superstar Kevin Durant. And on Tuesday night against the Raptors, Durant was on the other end of such a play, as he usually is.

Marcus Vick, the 28-year-old younger brother of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, clearly doesn't want his brother on the struggling Eagles anymore, as you can tell by the above tweet.

The former Virginia Tech quarterback (just like Michael) and Miami Dolphins camp body (2007) wasn't done after that tweet either. Here's some of what else he's had to say tonight while the Eagles play the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football:

The Philadelphia 76ers' Nick Young has always been a very talented player, but he can also be a bit of a headache at times. His shot selection for example has always been an issue, and as I write this, he's 4 of 15 from the field in tonight's game against the Knicks.

And one of those missed shots was particularly awful:

Bemidji State? Yeah... I had never heard of it either. Apparently it's a 5,000-student university located in Bemidji, Minnesota.

And apparently, the Bemidji State Beavers have a very athletic quarterback, you'll see in following video. First, to get some background on the video, here's its description on the YouTube page:

Senior quarterback Lance Rongstad (who also starts for the Bemidji State men's basketball team) posted a 78-yard touchdown run in a 35-25 victory against Minnesota State University Moorhead Nov. 3 that established a BSU record for longest rush by a Beaver quarterback. In the run, he leaps a 5-8 Dragon safety in the open field.

The guy we featured as the Week Nine Fantasy Football Roundup cover boy? That's Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie running back Doug Martin. We featured him because he was coming off a few monster games (in fact, he had the most fantasy points for running backs over the previous three weeks), and expected him to have another big day today against the Oakland Raiders. And he certainly did.

Martin rushed for a whopping 251 yards on 25 carries, and four of those carries were for touchdowns. In the second half, the rookie out of Boise State had touchdown runs of 45 yards, 60 yards, and 70 yards. Ridiculous.

See those runs for yourself, thanks to The Big Lead:

I remember leading up to the draft, there was a ton of speculation that the Denver Broncos (as somebody that lives in Denver, I can tell you I heard about it pretty much everyday for a couple months) or Green Bay Packers would take Martin, before the 31st slot where the Bucs selected him. Could you imagine those offenses with this guy?
Whatever the case, Tampa Bay is glad to have him. After two straight Martin-led wins on the road, the Bucs are still very much alive in the NFC playoff race at 4-4.

Washington Redskins tight end Logan Paulsen hit a referee in the face with a football during Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers. But, it wasn't on purpose, as Paulsen was just flipping the ball to the ref, and the ref wasn't paying attention. Boom. Face. And the medical staff even had to come out to make sure the ref was okay.

I didn't think the Alabama Crimson Tide football team would lose a game this season, but they came oh so close to losing on Saturday night to the No. 5 LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge.

In fact, with just a minute and a half left in the game, it certainly appeared the No.1-ranked team in the BCS was going to lose. That was until Heisman Trophy candidate A.J. McCarron led a five-play, 72-yard drive, which ended with a 28-yard touchdown pass to running back T.J. Yeldon with 51 seconds left. Well, it was really a little screen pass that Yeldon and the Alabama blockers did pretty much all of the work on, but it still counts for McCarron's 19th touchdown of the season, compared to zero interceptions thrown.

Here's video of the touchdown that gave Alabama a 21-17 victory, and will keep them ranked No. 1 in the BCS Rankings:

Yeldon, a freshman averaging 7 yards per carry, is just another special running back to play at Alabama, and a terrific complementary back to the powerful Eddie Lacy. And with their offensive line, it's just not fair.

Incredible shots made tonight in the NBA. Earlier, we showed you Rajon Rondo making an absolutely insane shot against the Wizards, and Ray Allen's four-point play with 6.7 seconds to beat the Nuggets. Now, we have point guard Brandon Jennings draining a three to beat the buzzer, and give the Bucks a 105-102 victory over the Cavs on Saturday night:

Beautiful fadeaway three and quick release, which of course had to be the case with only 0.7 seconds before he even touched the ball. But... that clock sure took a while to start. Still think he would've gotten it off in time though.

After losing by 20 on Friday night to the New York Knicks, it appeared the defending-champion Miami Heat may be in store for another loss on Saturday night against the Denver Nuggets.

Down 116-115 with under 10 seconds to go, LeBron James found Ray Allen in the corner. And the NBA's all-time leader in three pointers made did it again, while getting fouled, even.

Watch Allen's four-point play with 6.7 seconds left, to give the Heat a 119-116 victory:

Easily the biggest shot in the 10-time All-Star's young Heat career. And it shows how he can make the Heat even more dangerous than a year ago. Finishing game has been an issue for the Heat for years, and Allen is going to take pressure off LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh (who by the way scored 40 points in this game) in these situations. It's going to be a nightmare for teams to figure out what to do defensively in the final seconds when these four players are on the floor together. LeBron and Wade's tremendous ability to drive and dish makes it even more difficult to defend, and now they can dish to Allen for the corner three like we saw in this instance.

As for the Nuggets, they're off to an extremely disappointing start at 0-3, after being predicted by many to be the Western Conference's NBA Finals representative. A roster featuring Ty Lawson, Danilo Gallinari, Andre Iguodala, Kenneth Faried, JaVale McGee, and Andre Miller is too talented to not start winning a lot of games, though.

The Celtics won the game 89-86, but two of their points came on free throws with one second to go, as the Wizards fouled them on purpose to try to extend the game. So, if Rondo doesn't make that insane shot, the Celtics probably lose the game.

These are the new uniforms for the Houston Astros

Posted by Matt Clapp | 11/03/2012 04:47:00 PM | , , ,

Not only will the Houston Astros be moving to a new division in 2013 (from the NL Central to the AL West), but they'll also be wearing new uniforms.

Check them out:

My reaction is pretty "meh" to these. Not bad, not great. I think I would like the home uniforms more with one of the navy hats.

The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 86-84 on Thursday night, on a buzzer-beating jumper from star point guard Tony Parker.

 Here's video of the shot:

Beautifully drawn-up play by Pops (as usual), and great job by Parker to create space for the shot shot after receiving the pass from Danny Green.

More buzzer-beating action from this game: Thunder guard Eric Maynor drains a shot from 3/4 court as the clock expires in the third quarter.

Not a bad way to tie the Spurs going into the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for Eric Maynor and the Thunder, Spurs point guard Tony Parker had a buzzer-beater of his own to end the game, and give the Spurs an 86-84 victory. Still, awesome shot by Maynor.

Beautiful slow-motion video of surfing... Lake Michigan

Posted by Matt Clapp | 11/01/2012 09:47:00 PM | ,

You probably are aware by now that I'm a big fan of surfing videos. I've posted quite a few between here and theScore's Buzz over the last few years. But... can't remember of posting a surfing video that takes place on a lake, like the following video does.

The video was made by Josh Tyron, and here's how he described it on the Vimeo page:

On Tuesday I was able to head out to Holland MI and experience some of the pure energy our great lakes can produce. Beautiful and graceful in Slow Motion. At real speed it made it made you feel small and out of control.
And the video:

Freaking awesome video. Well done, Josh.

Even worse is that the center's (Mitch Morris) team, Garden City, lost the Kansas high school game to Dodge City by the score of 24-20. The thought that you wouldn't have lost a game had you not SNAPPED A PICK-SIX can't be a good feeling.
