If you're a baseball fan and haven't been following Manny Machado closely, now is the time to change that.
The 21-year-old (which he just turned on Saturday) Orioles third baseman has a ridiculous 39 doubles on the season, before we're even at the All-Star break. He's on pace for 71 doubles, which would break the MLB record of 67, set by Earl Webb in 1931.
And the 2013 AL All-Star isn't only getting it done on the offensive end.
Machado, who came into 2012 as Baseball America's No. 11 overall prospect, played shortstop in the minors, and that's where he could end up before long. For now, he's playing third base with rock-solid veteran JJ Hardy manning the shortstop position, and you can see some of Machado's shortstop-esque talents in his play at the hot corner. He's displayed tremendous range, hands, and especially, a cannon arm.
On Sunday, Machado showed off his arm with this play against the Yankees:
What a throw.
