April 2013 | Sharapova's Thigh

The Angels' Mark Trumbo has tremendous power, and the 27-year-old put that talent on display in Oakland on Monday night in an AL West divisional battle against the A's.

Watch Trumbo absolutely destroy an offering from Oakland's Dan Sally to give the Angels a 2-0 lead in the top of the second:

The bomb was estimated at 475 feet (and I personally think that estimation is a little short), tying Trumbo with the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo for the longest MLB home run so far in 2013.

Trumbo now has four homers in the early going, after hitting 32 homers in 2012 and 29 homers in 2011.

CP3 doing CP3 things. The Clippers' point guard was absolutely ridiculous for the entire second half, making incredible passes and hitting incredible shots like the one you just saw. Paul finished the game with 24 points and nine assists.

The Clippers now have a 2-0 series lead over the Grizzlies in the series as they head to game three in Memphis.

Maria Sharapova and Porsche have reportedly agreed to a three-year deal that will make the Thigh Goddess the German car maker's first global endorser:

German car maker Porsche on Monday made what some might consider to be a surprising announcement. It's first global endorser would be a woman.

The brand, which is dominated by male buyers, chose tennis player Maria Sharapova to be the face of its company for the next three years.

"This says a lot about her longevity and her brand power," said her agent Max Eisenbud. "To have a company like Porsche that is so high-end and so meticulous to allow her to stand next to their car says a lot."

Sharapova was back in Stuttgart, where the car maker is based, to defend her title in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. After winning there last year, and winning a white Porsche 911, she went on to win the French Open. More than 88 percent of 911 buyers are men, according to research by Edmunds.com.

"Maria is the perfect choice," said Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller. "Her profile and charisma are an ideal fit for Porsche."

The commentary from Rovell on it being a "surprising announcement" because Maria's a woman is a bit ridiculous, as men of course love her, and she'll help sell cars and get reader/viewer attention in Porsche advertisements likely more than any man would.

So, very cool for Maria and kudos to Porsche for making what we think is a fantastic business decision.

The 2013 NFL Draft begins a week from now, on Thursday April 25th (first round only).

The Kansas City Chiefs hold the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, and the assumption for months has been that they'd take a left tackle with the selection. And for a while, it seemed to be a near lock that Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel would be the pick, but Central Michigan left tackle Eric Fisher's stock has skyrocketed of late.

After the end of the college football season, most pegged Fisher as a mid-to-late first round pick. But,  the 6'7", 306-pound Fisher was extremely impressive all week at the Senior Bowl, and followed that up with an equally as impressive showing at the NFL Combine. It's all led to speculation that the Chiefs could select Fisher, and not Joeckel, with the No. 1 pick.

Former NFL scout and current analyst for NFL.Com and NFL Network, Daniel Jeremiah, had this to say about Fisher and the Chiefs on Wednesday:

But, on Thursday, NFL insider Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports and NFL Network said that he's hearing the Chiefs are "locked in on" Joeckel at No. 1, and that Joeckel "will be the first name called next week":

Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel will be the first name called next week. According to numerous league sources, the Chiefs are locked in on him, barring anything unforeseen, after also strongly considering Central Michigan left tackle Eric Fisher. But Joeckel has played in a tougher conference and is a safer pick, and in a league where first-time general managers is becoming the rule (especially guys with college backgrounds), you are going to see a lot of clubs deferring to the safest guy (more on that later, when we delve into the guards).
Source: CBS Sports

We'll know for sure next week (and likely before Thursday), but it certainly appears as though the 6'6", 306-pound Joeckel will be the first player selected in this year's NFL Draft.

During Sunday's Red Sox-Rays game at Fenway Park a fan in attendance smoothly made a barehanded catch on a foul ball.

Check it out in GIF form, thanks to @CorkGaines (one of our favorite follows on Twitter), check out this "Like a Boss"-esque grab:

Very impressive.

Also very impressive on Sunday at Fenway was Red Sox starting pitcher Clay Buchholz, who didn't even allow a hit until the Rays' Kelly Johnson singled in the top of the eighth. Buchholz would go on to allow just two hits over eight shutout innings in a 5-0 Red Sox victory. On the season, the 28-year-old right-hander is now 3-0 with just one earned run allowed in 22 innings, good for a 0.41 ERA. That's quite dominant.

Here's a game-winning lacrosse goal at the buzzer

Posted by Matt Clapp | 4/10/2013 03:48:00 PM |

I don't remember the last time we had a lacrosse post on here, so it's about time we gave the Lax brahs their due.

Check out this buzzer-beating goal from Wesleyan Men's Quentin DellaFera with 0.1 seconds left to knock off Colby:

Wesleyan was down four goals to Colby late in the game, and certainly concluded the comeback in pretty fantastic fashion.

The Rays and Orioles are currently opening up their seasons at Tropicana Field, and Rays star third baseman Evan Longoria is already making absolutely absurd plays at third base.

After already making a terrific play defensively in the top of the fifth, Longoria ended the inning with what is definitely the top web gem we've seen so far in the first two days of the MLB season.

In GIF form via our buddy Scott Lewis of theScore's Getting Blanked (must-bookmark MLB blog), watch Longoria make a diving play to his left, and then, while sitting down, throw out the Orioles' Adam Jones at first base:

You get a pretty good idea of why the 27-year-old has two Gold Gloves. And at the plate, he's every bit as good, rocking a career .877 OPS.

Or not.

The Yankees were losing the game 8-2 to their hated rival Red Sox when this picture was taken by Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal in the bottom of the ninth inning, but really? Not a good look.
