Maria Yuryevna Sharapova is a popular tennis player who hails from Russia.  Sharapova has participated in various tournaments and enlisted her name in the winning list.  She competed on the WTA tour since 2001.  She was ranked world number one in singles by the WTA and she stood in the rank for over 21 weeks in over five different occasions.  She is only Russian and one of the ten women to hold the career Grand slam.  She received many awards and medals in her career to date.  She has been one of the most famous tennis players on the globe.

She also received medals in Olympics.  She received a silver medal for Russia in women’s singles in 2012 Summer Olympics that were held in London.  Sharapova becomes the number one for the first time in 2005 when she is 18.  Sharapova won 35 titles in women’s singles and five Grand Slam titles.  The five grand slam titles include two French Opens and one each at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and US Open.  She is ranked number three among the active players.   Not just singles, she also won three doubles titles in her carrier.

Sharapova has also won many awards and medals as a junior tennis player. Her kick started her carrier in 2000 when she won the Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships in the girl’s division when she was just 13.  In the Junior Grand Slam tournament finals, she won two runner-up titles.
