With 14 minutes to go in the Washington Capitals' 7-0 blowout win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night, a wild scene broke out on the ice at Wells Fargo Center:

Ward completed his hat trick by beating Ray Emery at 5:23 of the third period. Eight seconds later, a brawl broke out that included a fight between Emery and (Braden) Holtby. The brawl resulted in eight fighting majors; Emery, who had replaced starter Steve Mason in the second period, received one of them to go with two minors, a misconduct and a game misconduct.

Four other players -- the Capitals' Steve Oleksy and Alexander Urbom and the Flyers' Vincent Lecavalier and Brayden Schenn -- were given fighting majors and game misconducts.

Emery in particular, went nuts, and punched Holtby in the back of the head several times. Here's video of the fighting:

Crazy stuff, and you'd have to think that Emery, the backup goaltender for the 2012-2013 Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks, may be facing a suspension.

My roommate and I watched game one of the Pittsburgh Penguins vs Washington Capitals playoff series last Saturday. Not because we care about Ovechkin or Crosby or hockey in the slightest...but because we found out that NBC was carrying the game. More precisely, we found out that if the game were to go to overtime, NBC would be handing it off to the Versus network so that they could show the Kentucky Derby. We wanted to see that happen.

Fast forward to tonight/this morning. The Penguins and Capitals are forced to play back to back playoff games because of a Yanni concert scheduled in Pittsburgh.

I can't wait until the Stanley Cup finals aren't shown so that NBC can show the Celebrity Apprentice and Versus can show one of their many hits. Looking at my on screen guide, I see they show "Rodeo" quite a bit. Awesome.
